Exterior Lead Engineer

About the role

Tata Technologies is seeking an experienced Exterior Lead Engineer to lead the development and delivery of automotive exterior closure components. The role involves managing the commodity lifecycle, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring that design, cost, and timing targets are met.

Key responsibilities

• Lead decision‑making for exterior lid and closure component projects, ensuring defined attributes, cost, and schedule are achieved.
• Manage suppliers, tooling, and cross‑functional teams across international locations.
• Validate sub‑systems for durability, thermal performance, weight, and cost.
• Support vehicle launch, pre‑production builds, and prototype part delivery.
• Ensure compliance with automotive exterior regulations and packaging requirements.

Required profile

• 8–12 years of experience in automotive exterior component development.
• Proven project‑management track record delivering on time, cost, quality, and attribute targets.
• Hands‑on experience with closure components such as fuel filler flaps, charge bowls, doors, hoods, and tailgates.
• Experience in supplier management, APQP documentation, and OEM commodity leadership.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with global teams.

Required skills

• Catia V5/V6 and Team Centre CAD tools.
• GD&T, DVA, DVP, DFMEA, PPIR, and FMEA methodologies.
• Six Sigma and problem‑solving techniques, including root‑cause analysis.
• APQP processes and supplier management.
• Knowledge of carbon‑fibre commodity development (preferred).
