Director of Research – Greater Kolkata

About the role

The Director role is a full‑time, on‑site position based in the Greater Kolkata Area. The Director will provide strategic leadership for the institute, define research priorities, and ensure alignment with CSIR’s mission and national scientific and industrial objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee research programs, guide technology development and innovation, and foster collaborations with academia, industry, and government bodies.
• Manage senior staff, allocate resources, monitor project performance, and uphold high standards of scientific integrity, safety, and compliance.
• Represent CGCRI at national and international forums, drive funding initiatives, and promote a culture of inclusive, high‑impact research.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in materials science, glass or ceramic technology, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline.
• Extensive research experience with a strong publication record in glass, ceramics, optical materials, or related fields.
• Proven leadership experience in a research, academic, or scientific institution, including managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.
• Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, research program development, and translating scientific outcomes into industrial or societal impact.
