Director of Engineering

About the role

In this role you will partner with leaders across engineering, product management, field engineering, recruiting and HR to drive developer productivity and integrate AI tools into the developer workflow on Databricks’ platform.

Key responsibilities

• Lead critical initiatives that enhance developer productivity and innovate the developer platform.
• Integrate AI‑assisted tools into the developer workflow.
• Deliver large‑scale solutions aligned with business needs and product milestones.
• Evolve organizational structures and build high‑performing, cross‑functional teams.
• Manage technical debt and make long‑term architecture decisions.
• Participate in technical, product, and design discussions.
• Build, manage, and operate highly scalable cloud services.
• Coach and mentor emerging leaders, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Collaborate with engineering and product peers on planning, prioritization, and staffing.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience building and supporting large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven ability to build, grow, and manage high‑performance engineering teams.
• Experience attracting and hiring engineers who meet Databricks hiring principles.
• Background in building and running cloud platforms or rapid learning of SaaS concepts.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration with product management and customers.
• BS in Computer Science or higher (MS/PhD).
