Day Shift Custodian – Operations (Railyards)

About the role

The Operations 1 Custodian works day shifts in the railyard area, keeping facilities clean, safe, and welcoming for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is essential to maintaining hygiene standards across classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, lunch and break areas.
• Empty trash and recycling containers, wash windowsills, walls, doors, and furniture.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop hallways, walkways, and stairways.
• Perform floor care duties such as stripping, waxing, sealing, and buffing.
• Spot‑clean and shampoo carpets.
• Respond to special moving, clean‑up, or set‑up tasks as assigned.
• Handle emergency spill clean‑up requests promptly.
• Report repairs and safety issues to the Lead Custodian or M&O Supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to follow safety regulations, OSHA standards, and wear required protective gear.

Required skills

• Floor stripping, waxing, sealing, and buffing.
• Carpet shampooing and spot cleaning.
• Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping.
• Use of cleaning chemicals and equipment safely.
