Data Privacy Counsel

About the role

The Data Privacy Counsel will work closely with Varex Imaging’s Global Data Privacy Officer to build and strengthen the company’s worldwide data‑privacy program. This legal position provides guidance on compliance with global privacy regulations, supports business units on data‑related contracts, and helps protect personal and sensitive information across all operations.

Key responsibilities

• Review, negotiate and draft data processing agreements, data‑transfer agreements (including SCCs and Transfer Impact Assessments), vendor privacy terms and commercial contracts with privacy implications.
• Provide legal advice on GDPR, DPDPA (India), CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA and emerging AI‑specific privacy regulations.
• Advise product, business and functional teams on data collection, processing, sharing, retention and subject‑rights requirements.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new technologies, AI systems and high‑risk processing activities.
• Monitor changes in privacy laws across jurisdictions, assess business impact and deliver actionable recommendations.
• Guide data‑breach response efforts, including notification obligations and regulatory reporting.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree with admission to practice.
• Significant experience advising on data‑privacy and data‑protection matters.
• Demonstrated knowledge of major privacy frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA and DPDPA.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and senior leadership.
• Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills.

Required skills

• In‑depth understanding of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, DPDPA and AI‑related privacy regulations.
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating data processing and data‑transfer agreements.
• Experience conducting DPIAs and privacy risk assessments.
• Ability to interpret and apply evolving privacy legislation to business operations.
