Data Engineer – Databricks, Python & SQL

About the role

Stolt‑Nielsen’s Digital Innovation Centre is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise the data infrastructure that powers analytics and AI initiatives across the company. You will work with cutting‑edge technologies such as Databricks Genie, turning raw data into trusted, accessible insights for business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines in Databricks using PySpark and Delta Lake.
• Build robust ETL/ELT processes to ingest data from APIs, databases, files and cloud systems.
• Optimise data models and storage for analytics, machine learning and BI reporting.
• Write and maintain SQL queries, views and stored procedures for data transformation.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Implement data quality, governance and security standards.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and tune data workflows for performance, reliability and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience as a Data Engineer, ETL developer or similar role.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a cross‑functional environment.

Required skills

• Databricks (workspace, notebooks, jobs, clusters, Unity Catalog).
• Python, especially PySpark and pandas.
• SQL for data manipulation, performance tuning and debugging.
• Delta Lake, ETL/ELT design, API integration.
• Data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling (Kimball) and medallion architecture.
