Commis 1 - South Indian

About the role

Novotel & ibis Bengaluru Outer Ring Road, in the heart of the IT corridor near Ecospace Business Park, Prestige Techpark and corporate offices such as Accenture and Deloitte, is looking for a Commis 1 - South Indian. This is an entry-level kitchen position where you work under the guidance of senior chefs to prepare authentic South Indian dishes while keeping the highest standards of food quality and kitchen hygiene.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook South Indian dishes according to established recipes and chef specifications
• Maintain mise en place by organizing and preparing ingredients before service
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including stoves, grills and traditional cooking vessels
• Follow food safety and hygiene protocols consistently
• Assist senior chefs with food preparation, cooking and plating
• Manage time to meet service deadlines and collaborate with the kitchen team
• Monitor food quality and presentation, and keep workstations and kitchen areas clean and organized
• Support inventory management by reporting ingredient usage and stock levels

Required profile

• Proficiency in South Indian cooking techniques and traditional recipes
• Strong knowledge of South Indian spices, ingredients and flavor profiles
• Understanding of food safety, sanitation and hygiene best practices
• Ability to follow recipes and chef instructions precisely
• Experience operating standard kitchen equipment and tools
• Time management, multitasking, teamwork and communication skills
• Familiarity with local South Indian ingredients and regional culinary preferences
• Preferred: previous professional kitchen experience, knowledge of food costing and portion control, and understanding of dietary requirements and food allergies
