Charge Nurse – Orthopaedic ERAS

About the role

The Charge Nurse Orthopaedic ERAS will provide senior clinical leadership on the orthopaedic ward, ensuring safe, high‑quality care for patients undergoing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery pathways. You will act as the primary point of contact in the Senior Charge Nurse’s absence and support a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the ward team when the Senior Charge Nurse is unavailable, maintaining safe and effective patient care.
• Deliver evidence‑based nursing care and support patients, families and carers through complex or sensitive situations.
• Coordinate staffing, workload and resources to ensure safe service delivery.
• Support staff development through supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal.
• Drive quality improvement via clinical audit, research activity and implementation of best practice.
• Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to ensure coordinated care.

Required profile

• NMC‑registered nurse with substantial post‑registration experience.
• Confident in delivering advanced clinical care and supporting others to do the same.
• Strong communicator with the ability to lead, motivate and guide a team.
• Skilled in managing challenging situations, prioritising workload and making autonomous decisions.
• Committed to professional development, evidence‑based practice and high standards of patient care.
