Certified Nursing Assistant – Transitional Care Unit

About the role

We are seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Transitional Care Unit at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. The CNA will provide direct patient care on a full‑time day shift, supporting LPNs and RNs in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to residents.

Key responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake‑output measurements.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living, ambulation, positioning, and use of assistive devices.
• Encourage deep‑breathing exercises, incentive spirometry, and coughing as outlined in the care plan.
• Provide morning and evening care such as bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, linen changes, and bedside cleaning.
• Manage nutritional needs, distribute meals, and assist with feeding.
• Empty and clean drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans, and ostomy bags, documenting output.
• Apply and remove TED hose, sequential compression devices, and perform range‑of‑motion exercises.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as ordered.
• Promptly respond to call lights and report any significant changes to the supervising nurse.

Required profile

• Current CNA certification and ability to work under the supervision of LPNs/RNs.
• Adherence to hospital policies, safety standards, and quality‑assurance procedures.
• Strong observational skills and ability to communicate changes in patient condition.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe patient environment.
