BMS System Test/Validation Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems

About the role

The BMS System Test/Validation Engineer will ensure the performance, safety and reliability of Battery Management Systems (BMS) used in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Working in both laboratory and field environments, you will verify BMS functionality against system requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute validation and verification tests at cell, module, pack and system levels.
• Perform functional, performance, fault‑injection, environmental and stress testing of BMS features.
• Analyse test and field data to evaluate SOC, SOH, SOP, cell‑balancing, fault detection and protection functions.
• Create and maintain test plans, procedures, validation reports and traceability matrices.
• Support testing at internal labs and external certification labs (UL, IEC, CSA).
• Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, manufacturing and supplier teams to debug issues and drive corrective actions.
• Develop automated test solutions with emulators for end‑of‑line testing.
• Perform root‑cause analysis of BMS, battery, communication and integration issues.
• Assist with site commissioning, startup, system integration and acceptance testing for BESS projects.
• Drive continuous improvement of testing, commissioning and documentation processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Controls, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• 5–10+ years of experience in BMS testing, validation, commissioning or battery systems engineering.
• Strong understanding of battery systems, BMS architecture, safety functions and system integration.
