Backend Software Engineer (3-5 yrs)

About the role

PhonePe is looking for a Backend Software Engineer with 3‑5 years of experience to design and develop robust, scalable web‑based applications that power its digital payments ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Build robust and scalable backend services for high‑volume transaction processing.
• Create abstractions and contracts with clear separation of concerns.
• Drive problem‑solving for complex business and technical challenges.
• Perform high‑level design, functional modeling, and module breakdown.
• Conduct impact analysis and incremental changes to architecture.
• Optimize performance and tune large‑scale distributed systems.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to translate features into capability views.
• Lead execution of medium‑sized projects and track their impact.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Strong expertise in at least one general‑purpose language such as Java, C, or C++.
• Hands‑on experience with multithreading and concurrency programming.
• Proven ability to build highly scalable business applications handling large data volumes.
• Deep knowledge of object‑oriented design, design patterns, and clean code principles.
• Experience with unit testing and Test‑Driven Development.
• Good understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL technologies.
