AVP Controller – Balance Sheet Substantiation

About the role

State Street is seeking an AVP‑level Controller to lead Balance Sheet Substantiation (BSS) across its Global Accounting Operations hub. You will ensure high‑quality, timely reconciliations while driving governance, control excellence, and transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end reconciliation and substantiation processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with BSS policy and SOX.
• Identify and remediate key risks, P&L exposures and control gaps; maintain a robust control environment.
• Lead SOX controls review, RCSA alignment and internal audit readiness.
• Partner with Global Process Owners and technology teams to standardise, re‑engineer and automate processes, including Oracle system implementations.
• Manage issue resolution, escalation and reporting to senior management.
• Collaborate with Controllers, IT, Audit and Operations across NA, EMEA and APAC; coach and develop high‑performing teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance; MBA or professional accounting qualification (CA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA) preferred.
• 12‑15 years of experience in Balance Sheet Substantiation, controllership, accounting operations or risk assurance.
• Strong background in shared services and offshore delivery models.
• Proven expertise in SOX, RCSA and control framework design.
• Hands‑on experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle, and accounting technology transformation.
• In‑depth knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS and Subledger Accounting.
