Associate – Underground Structures (Mining & Civil)

About the role

We are looking for an Associate to lead underground structures, tunnelling and mining infrastructure projects. The role combines strategic leadership, technical oversight and client relationship management across the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for underground structures and tunnelling services in mining and civil projects.
• Act as Project/Design/Technical Director or Discipline Lead on major programmes.
• Lead multidisciplinary projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.
• Establish technical standards, design governance and quality‑assurance processes.
• Oversee structural analysis, ground‑structure interaction, hydrostatic pressure and temporary works design.
• Drive client engagement, business development and bid strategy.
• Manage project, commercial, contract and risk aspects.
• Promote digital engineering, automation and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Develop capability growth plans, succession strategies and technical excellence programmes.
• Represent the firm at industry forums and ensure compliance with health, safety, quality and sustainability requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional qualification.
• Member of a recognised engineering institution.
• 18‑25+ years of experience in tunnelling, underground structures or mining infrastructure.
• Proven experience leading large, multidisciplinary projects and teams.
• Demonstrated track record in business development and client relationship management.
