About the role
AECOM is seeking an Associate Director – Energy to lead the design of primary substation systems for transmission and distribution projects in India. The role offers the chance to work on high‑voltage projects up to 800 kV, collaborate with global teams, and advance technical expertise in a supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Design primary substation systems, including AIS/GIS configurations, transformer installations, circuit breaker selection, busbar arrangements and switchgear layouts.
- Prepare single‑line diagrams, general arrangement layouts, equipment sizing, and layout plans for substations and transmission systems.
- Conduct short‑circuit force calculations, fault current analysis, and protection system design to ensure system stability.
- Develop earthing, grounding, and lightning protection systems for substations.
- Integrate HVDC and HVAC systems, including converter stations, into overall substation designs.
- Optimize substation layouts for space, accessibility and construction considerations.
- Coordinate with civil teams on foundations, steel structures and cable routing.
- Produce equipment specification documents, bills of materials and procurement support.
- Design underground cable systems and auxiliary systems such as cooling and battery supplies.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 15+ years of experience, preferably leading large design teams on EHV grid substation projects.
- Proven experience with HV plant design for large EHV substations and work with grid utilities.
- Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian and Middle‑East codes).
