Assistant Professor – Tibetan Studies (Hybrid)

About the role

The Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) seeks a full‑time Assistant Professor to join its faculty in Varanasi. This hybrid position combines on‑site teaching and research with flexible remote work, supporting the Institute’s mission to preserve and promote Tibetan culture and scholarship.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials for undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Prepare course materials, assessments, and provide academic mentorship to students.
• Conduct independent and collaborative research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and present at conferences.
• Participate in curriculum development, departmental committees, and academic events.
• Maintain accurate academic records and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Advanced academic training (preferably a Ph.D.) in Tibetan Studies, Buddhist Studies, Himalayan Studies, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the higher‑education level, including course design and student assessment.
• Strong research record with publications in reputable journals.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; proficiency in Tibetan language and scripts is highly desirable.
