Assistant Manager - Horticulture

About the role

The Assistant Manager – Horticulture will lead the planning, development and upkeep of landscaped areas across the port premises. This role combines hands‑on horticultural work with supervision of contractors, budget management and sustainability initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and maintain gardens, lawns, medians and green belts throughout the port.
• Supervise daily horticulture operations such as pruning, watering, mowing, trimming and replantation.
• Ensure optimal functioning of irrigation systems and implement water‑conservation practices.
• Monitor plant health, diagnose pests and diseases, and apply appropriate nutrient and pesticide treatments.
• Manage horticulture contractors and outsourced workforce, verify bills and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Prepare annual maintenance plans and budgets, track expenditures and recommend cost‑effective landscaping solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Forestry, Landscape Management or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 5–8 years of experience in horticulture, landscaping or green‑belt development, preferably in industrial plants, ports, SEZs, airports or large infrastructure projects.

Required skills

• Pruning, watering, mowing, trimming and replantation techniques.
• Irrigation system operation and water‑conservation management.
• Pest, disease and nutrient management for trees, shrubs and ornamental plants.
