Assistant General Manager – Indirect Tax (Mumbai)

About the role

As the Assistant General Manager – Indirect Tax for L'Oréal India, you will lead the strategic direction of all indirect tax and customs matters across the company's diverse operations in Mumbai. You will guide a team of tax professionals, ensure compliance, and drive tax efficiency to support manufacturing, R&D, and the new Global Capability Center.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive indirect tax strategies, advising the business on new initiatives and legislative changes.
• Ensure timely compliance with Indian GST, Customs, and Foreign Trade Policy regulations for import/export, manufacturing, and GCC activities.
• Lead all indirect tax and customs audits, assessments, and litigation, proactively managing risk and governance.
• Build and develop a high‑performance tax team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and digitalisation of tax processes.
• Oversee implementation and optimisation of tax systems such as SAP.

Required profile

• Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with extensive experience in indirect tax.
• Proven track record in a large multinational manufacturing environment (FMCG/Pharma) or top consulting firm.
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of Indian GST regulations.
• Expertise in Customs laws and procedures.
• Understanding of Foreign Trade Policy and legacy tax matters.
• Proficiency with SAP tax modules.
