Application Engineer – Semiconductor Process Diagnostics

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an Application Engineer to join its semiconductor process diagnostics and control group in Bangalore. The role focuses on advanced imaging and image‑processing algorithms to detect nanometer‑scale defects in leading‑edge chip manufacturing. You will work closely with customers to maximize performance of new defect‑metrology products.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with chip‑fab customers to understand use‑cases and optimize defect‑metrology product performance.
• Contribute to product development road‑maps through specification definition and performance validation.
• Apply high‑NA DUV imaging and SEM techniques to detect and analyze nanometer‑size defects.
• Travel up to 70 % of the time to semiconductor fabs worldwide for on‑site support and data collection.

Required profile

• Strong fundamentals in high‑NA DUV imaging, SEM, and light‑matter/electron‑matter interactions.
• Hands‑on lab or fab experience with detailed knowledge of semiconductor materials, processes, and defectivity.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
