AI Engineer – Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

The AI Forward Deployed Engineering (AI FDE) team is a highly specialized customer‑facing AI group at Databricks. We deliver professional‑services engagements that help customers build and productionize first‑of‑its‑kind AI applications, working cross‑functionally with engineering, product and developer relations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop cutting‑edge GenAI solutions using the latest Databricks AI research to solve customer problems.
• Own production roll‑outs of consumer‑ and internally‑facing GenAI applications.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers across diverse domains.
• Present at conferences such as the Data + AI Summit and act as a thought leader.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to influence priorities and shape the product roadmap.

Required profile

• Experience building GenAI applications (RAG, multi‑agent systems, Text2SQL, fine‑tuning) with tools like HuggingFace, LangChain and DSPy.
• Expertise deploying production‑grade GenAI applications, including evaluation and optimisation.
• Several years of hands‑on industry data‑science experience using pandas, scikit‑learn, PyTorch, etc.
• Experience delivering production‑grade ML deployments on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Research) or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Passion for collaboration, lifelong learning and driving business value through AI.
• Preferred: experience with the Databricks Intelligence Platform and Apache Spark™ for large‑scale distributed data processing.
• Willingness to travel once every 4–8 weeks to meet customers as needed.
