Activities Assistant

About the role

The Activities Assistant supports the Activity Director in delivering a creative, interactive program that meets the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs of each resident. This role works within a long‑term care facility and follows all federal, state, local, and corporate regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in planning and delivering individual, small‑group, and large‑group activities.
• Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records.
• Support communication among staff, residents, families, and external agencies to ensure resident needs are met.
• Help arrange transportation for resident outings, appointments, and discharge activities.
• Provide materials such as Braille reading items or audio books and encourage self‑initiated hobbies.
• Document assessments, quarterly progress notes, and activity care plans as directed.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and secure Activity Department environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year experience in a long‑term care facility preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures, policies, and manuals.
• Basic mathematical skills (fractions, percentages, ratios) for practical situations.
• Problem‑solving and instruction‑interpretation abilities.
• Physical ability to stand, walk frequently, and reach with hands and arms.
