Abatement Systems Engineer – Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions that enable the production of chips and advanced displays. The Abatement Systems Engineer will ensure the operational health and reliability of abatement systems that support semiconductor process equipment, driving continuous improvement and compliance with safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Own the operational health and reliability of all abatement systems supporting semiconductor process equipment.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance strategies for burn‑wet, plasma and point‑of‑use abatement systems.
• Monitor equipment performance, analyze trends, and drive improvements to MTBF and downtime.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose mechanical, electrical, process and controls failures.
• Coordinate repairs with OEMs and external suppliers, and lead root‑cause investigations for recurring failures.
• Validate exhaust flow requirements, support new tool installations and facility modifications, and ensure safe handling of hazardous exhaust gases.
• Maintain system documentation, operating procedures, maintenance records, and emergency response procedures.
• Drive EHS best practices, support hazard reviews, JHAs, risk assessments and MOC activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline.
• 5‑10 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, R&D labs or facilities engineering.
• Experience with utility systems (vacuum, exhaust, cooling water, chemical delivery, PLC, SCADA, sensors) and semiconductor processes that generate exhaust emissions (CVD, PVD, Etch).
