Vertical Turning Lathe Operator

About the role

The Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) Operator will be responsible for setting up and running vertical turning lathes to produce precision components in our Coimbatore facility. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, selecting tools and fixtures, and ensuring each part meets dimensional and surface‑finish specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret technical drawings, machining process sheets, and basic CAD outputs.
• Set up workpieces, select appropriate cutting tools, and adjust machine parameters.
• Monitor machining operations to maintain accuracy, surface finish and production targets.
• Perform routine inspections using vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges and dial indicators.
• Record production data, maintain logs and follow standard operating procedures.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of the lathe.
• Adhere to safety protocols, use PPE and ensure proper machine guarding.
• Collaborate with quality, programming and production teams to resolve issues.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience operating vertical turning lathes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and machining sheets.
• Knowledge of CNC machining fundamentals, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and basic G/M code for turning.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments and quality‑control documentation.
• Understanding of workplace safety procedures and PPE usage.
• Certificate or diploma in Mechanical/Production Engineering or machining (preferred).
