Utility Operator (III)

About the role

The Utility Operator (III) is a full‑time union position responsible for maintaining and repairing the city’s water, sewer, street, and other public works infrastructure. You will work on‑site, operating a range of equipment to keep essential services running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Perform routine upkeep of streets, facilities, and utility systems.
• Respond quickly to utility emergencies such as water‑main breaks and sewer backups.
• Assist in construction inspection on public works projects as needed.
• Work independently or as part of a small crew to complete assigned projects.

Required profile

• Full‑time union employee willing to obtain an S4 equipment license within 18 months of hire.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong commitment to safety and public service.

Required skills

• Operation of light equipment.
• Operation of heavy equipment.
• Construction inspection.
