Utilities Worker

About the role

The City of Poquoson is seeking a dedicated Utilities Worker to keep essential public utility systems operating smoothly. This full‑time, non‑exempt position supports water, wastewater, storm drainage and related infrastructure, ensuring a safe and clean community for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and repair pump stations, including painting, roofing, cleaning and power‑washing.
• Service pump components such as packing, seals, wear plates, bearings and drive shafts.
• Perform routine grass cutting and assist other departments as needed.
• Clean bar screens, wet wells, trucks, equipment and shop areas.
• Execute general maintenance and repair tasks on water and wastewater systems under the supervision of the Utility Foreman.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely with moderate supervision in a municipal utility environment.
• Physical capability to perform manual labor, including lifting, climbing and operating hand tools.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and willingness to learn specialized utility equipment.
