Technical Lead – Algorithm Developer

About the role

Join Applied Materials’ algorithm research team in Bangalore to lead the development of advanced detection and classification algorithms for optical wafer inspection. You will drive projects from concept through production deployment, influencing the performance of next‑generation semiconductor tools.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end algorithm development projects, from problem definition to production deployment.
• Design and optimize image‑processing algorithms for defect detection, pattern recognition, anomaly detection, and image registration.
• Integrate classical computer‑vision methods with deep‑learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Build data pipelines and curate large‑scale semiconductor inspection datasets, including chip design formats (GDSII, OASIS).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Field, Marketing, Product, Software, Systems) to gather requirements and integrate solutions.
• Validate, benchmark, and present algorithm performance to internal stakeholders and customers, including on‑site demonstrations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Image/Signal Processing, Computer Vision or related field.
• 7‑15 years of experience in algorithm development for image processing and computer vision, preferably in semiconductor inspection.
• Strong mathematical foundation and proven ability to combine classical methods with deep‑learning techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, with ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Python programming (production‑quality code).
• C++ or Java.
• Deep‑learning frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow.
• Image‑processing libraries: OpenCV, scikit‑image.
• GPU programming with CUDA or OpenCL.
• MATLAB.
• Experience with chip design data formats (GDSII, OASIS).
