TB Diagnostics Consultant – Infectious Disease (Tuberculosis)

About the role

PATH is seeking a senior consultant to provide technical oversight for the REACH Bangladesh project, focusing on tuberculosis diagnostics, laboratory systems and emergency preparedness. The consultant will work from India, travel to Bangladesh, and collaborate with government, donor and partner teams to design and launch integrated molecular testing strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical oversight of diagnostics and laboratory workstreams, translating co‑design outputs into an approved workplan, staffing plan and implementation schedule.
• Support updating the national laboratory network optimization plan and develop an integrated molecular testing strategy using GeneXpert, Truenat and RT‑PCR platforms.
• Contribute to the national roadmap for novel TB screening tools such as CAD/AI‑assisted X‑ray, N‑PoC, CRISPR and repurposed molecular infrastructure.
• Design decentralized testing models, specimen referral hubs, QR‑code tracking, electronic specimen tracking and turnaround‑time monitoring.
• Develop quality improvement roadmaps, biosafety guidelines, external quality assessment expansion and laboratory performance scorecards.
• Provide technical inputs for MIS dashboards, data quality assurance and performance monitoring frameworks.

Required profile

• PhD or postgraduate degree in Public Health, Microbiology, Laboratory Sciences or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of public‑health experience, with at least 5 years in TB or infectious‑disease diagnostics and laboratory systems strengthening.
• Demonstrated expertise in molecular diagnostics, laboratory network optimization, specimen referral systems and biosafety.
• Experience working with government counterparts, donors and multi‑partner consortia, preferably on U.S. Government‑funded programmes.
• Fluency in English; working familiarity with Bangla is an advantage.
