Steel Structural Engineer

About the role

This is a Steel Structural Engineer position based in Kochi, India, reporting to a Lead or Principal Structural Engineer. The role covers projects of various sizes, and on major or more complex projects the engineer may design structural steel frameworks. It involves liaising daily with the design team, attending progress and detail-design meetings, and delivering work to an agreed fee.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the design and construction stages of projects and deliver assigned tasks to agreed deadlines and fees, contributing to task profitability within budget.
• Prepare design basis reports, calculation reports, drawings, calculations, specifications and reports for assigned tasks.
• Review and comment on deliverables produced by Graduate Engineers and Technicians at key project stages.
• Coordinate with architects and service engineers on drawings and specifications, and support Quality Assurance (QA) within the team.
• Support the preparation of client and project proposals and help construct project teams from internal and external resources.
• Follow 9E QHSE policies, comply with local regulatory requirements, and obtain site inductions before working at sites.

Required profile

• Qualified graduate in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree or Chartered Engineering is an added advantage.
• Minimum 3-6 years of experience in engineering consultancy firms.
• Experience on Middle East projects is highly preferred.
• Ability to represent the practice at project level, take responsibility for assigned projects and achieve 95% chargeable time.

Required skills

• Familiarity with American, European and Indian steel structural design codes and standards.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, IDEA Statica and Hilti.
• Knowledge of concept design, buildability, detailed design, construction techniques, procurement routes, risk and claim assessment, and strong understanding of steel structure design and connection design.
• Knowledge of erection engineering is an added advantage.
