Staff Nurse – Planned Surgical Assessment Unit

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the Planned Surgical Assessment Unit (Ward 17) at Borders General Hospital. The role offers experience across general, gynaecology and orthopaedic elective surgery within a supportive NHS Borders environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality, safe nursing care to patients undergoing elective surgical procedures.
• Assist with pre‑operative assessments, post‑operative monitoring and discharge planning.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient pathways.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to infection‑control standards.
• Support the delivery of the Trust’s values of compassion, kindness, integrity, teamwork and excellence.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current UK nursing registration.
• Enthusiastic, passionate and strong communicator.
• Team‑player able to work effectively on a busy ward.
• Willingness to develop skills in general, gynaecology and orthopaedic surgery.

Required skills

• Knowledge of surgical nursing procedures and patient safety protocols.
• Ability to assess and monitor patients before and after surgery.
