Staff Nurse – Emergency Department (Band 5)

About the role

This permanent Band 5 Staff Nurse position is based in the Emergency Department of Borders General Hospital. The role is part of a fast‑paced Trauma Unit that receives patients from medical, surgical, orthopaedic and paediatric specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care to a diverse range of emergency patients.
• Assess, triage and prioritise patients in a rapidly changing environment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver timely interventions.
• Participate in shift work covering nights, days and weekends.
• Support training initiatives and contribute to a welcoming team culture.

Required profile

• Current NHS Scotland employee (internal vacancy).
• Experience working in an acute care setting is essential.
• Ability to adapt quickly to unpredictable workloads.
• Willingness to rotate to Ambulatory Care within Borders General Hospital if required.

Required skills

• Acute care nursing experience.
• Knowledge of trauma and emergency department protocols.
