Special Motor Equipment Operator / Skilled Craftsman

About the role

The Town of Dartmouth’s Department of Public Works, Water & Sewer Division is seeking a Special Motor Equipment Operator/Skilled Craftsman to operate heavy public‑works equipment and support construction, repair, and maintenance of the municipal water and sewer systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain special and heavy motor equipment used in water and sewer infrastructure projects.
• Assist with construction, repair, and routine maintenance activities for the town’s water and sewer systems.
• Perform physically demanding tasks in compliance with safety regulations and municipal standards.
• Provide related support duties as required by the department.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of experience operating special and heavy motor equipment.
• Up to six months experience in municipal water and sewer system operations (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Massachusetts Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
• Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer’s Class 2B license.
• Preferred: water‑system certification at the minimum grade.

Required skills

• Operation of heavy motor equipment.
• Knowledge of municipal water and sewer system maintenance.
• Class B driver’s license with tanker endorsement.
• Hoisting Engineer Class 2B certification.
