Software Platform Engineer II

About the role

MetLife’s EMEA Technology organization is looking for a Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and data products across the enterprise. The role works closely with developers, product managers, and DevOps teams to ensure high‑quality, reliable, and performant software delivery on modern cloud platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Develop data ingestion processes from APIs, files, and databases (structured, semi‑structured, or unstructured).
• Create notebooks to transform curated data into a unified data model.
• Model and curate datasets for analytics, including dimensional models and “gold” tables.
• Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting.
• Collaborate with analysts, product owners, and engineers to understand data needs.
• Document data dictionaries, runbooks, and support code reviews.
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures and assist with incident resolution.
• Follow data governance and security policies, including PII handling.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience with SQL (DDL, DML, joins, window functions, stored procedures).
• Proficiency in programming languages, preferably Python; Java or Scala acceptable.
• Understanding of data concepts, schemas, and basic data modeling.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic testing/debugging.
