Software Engineer III – Java & AWS

About the role

JPMorgan Chase is looking for a seasoned Software Engineer III to join its Consumer and Community Banking team. You will design, develop, and maintain high‑volume Java backend services while leveraging AWS cloud technologies to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and troubleshoot Java‑based backend services for high‑transaction processing.
• Build and operate solutions on AWS (Aurora Postgres, ECS/Fargate, EC2, Glue, Airflow) with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Use enterprise‑approved AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve code quality, generate tests, and accelerate delivery.
• Participate in design reviews with senior engineers and architects to ensure alignment with technical standards.
• Follow strong engineering practices including code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and documentation.
• Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical deliverables.
• Apply secure coding practices and support compliance with banking regulations.

Required profile

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience developing Java backend applications.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and quick learning in complex domains.
• Effective communication skills to work with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Java (object‑oriented design, common design patterns).
• AWS services – Aurora Postgres, ECS/Fargate, EC2, Glue, Airflow.
• Experience with distributed service architectures.
• Proficiency with AI‑assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and observability practices.
