Software Engineer II

About the role

Qualifacts is seeking a Software Engineer II to design and implement backend systems for a HIPAA‑compliant patient portal serving the behavioral health market. You will work on complex, high‑impact features from architecture through deployment while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services for a patient portal in the behavioral health space.
• Own complex features end‑to‑end, from architecture to production deployment.
• Contribute to system design decisions and raise the technical bar across the team.
• Integrate with external EHR systems using asynchronous, event‑driven pipelines.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Deliver frontend features in React when required.

Required profile

• 5+ years building production applications with Python/Django or similar stacks.
• Strong systems thinking: understands distributed state, failure modes, and long‑term design trade‑offs.
• Deep SQL and data‑modeling expertise, including migrations and query optimization.
• Experience with distributed systems, async workflows, event‑driven architecture, and message queues.
• Proficiency with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, and SNS.
• React experience (class components a plus) and ability to navigate ambiguous requirements.
• Daily use of AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor).
