Software Engineer – Android Application Development (2-4 yrs)

About the role

Gartner IT is looking for a motivated Android Software Engineer to join its Digital Product Technology team. You will help design, develop, and maintain mobile applications that deliver Gartner’s insights to clients on iOS and Android devices.

Key responsibilities

• Understand Gartner’s business domain and collaborate with stakeholders to create a world‑class client experience.
• Design, build, and ship high‑quality Android applications using Java or Kotlin.
• Ensure application performance, responsiveness, and reliability.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, bugs, and technical debt.
• Maintain code quality through automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
• Work proactively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and take ownership of feature delivery.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of professional experience developing Android applications.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities with a high sense of ownership.
• Experience integrating REST or SOAP web services.
• Familiarity with modern Android architecture and component lifecycles.

Required skills

• Java and Kotlin programming languages.
• Android SDK, Activities, Fragments, Services, Broadcast Receivers, Content Providers.
• Jetpack Compose and other Jetpack libraries.
• Retrofit for network communication.
• Push notification implementation.
• Gradle build system.
• Dependency injection frameworks (Dagger or Hilt).
• Local data storage (SQLite, Room, SharedPreferences) with secure handling.
• Kotlin Coroutines, Flow for asynchronous programming.
• Unit testing and debugging tools.
• Version control with Git/GitHub/Bitbucket.
• Understanding of OOP concepts and design patterns.
