Senior Software Engineer, Backend & Infrastructure

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer you will join Coursera’s fast‑paced innovation team focused on AI enablement. The team builds and maintains the infrastructure and tooling that allow both internal teams and enterprise customers to adopt production‑grade, agentic AI solutions at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Build, scale and maintain the infrastructure and platform required to deliver production‑grade agentic AI solutions.
• Lead architecture and technical design, ensuring high availability, reliability and scalability.
• Analyze customer requirements, understand enterprise data landscapes and incorporate data‑privacy and residency compliance.
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Tech Innovation Strategists to define problem statements and focus on impact.
• Set engineering standards, lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers and improve development processes.
• Participate in sprint planning, technical grooming and retrospectives.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend and cloud infrastructure background.
• 1+ years building production‑grade agentic AI solutions.
• Proven ability to lead projects, debug complex issues and work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.
