Senior Python Software Engineer (Remote – India)

About the role

Join Astronomer’s open‑source engineering team to design and implement new Apache Airflow features. You will work remotely with a distributed team, shaping the future of data orchestration for thousands of enterprises.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement new Airflow features and components.
• Improve performance and resiliency of the Airflow platform.
• Iterate on and enhance the developer experience for Airflow users.
• Raise code quality, expand test coverage, and reduce test runtime.
• Participate actively in the Airflow community via Slack, mailing lists, and GitHub.
• Collaborate closely with teammates to deliver high‑quality results.
• Liaise with customers to troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.
• Contribute to the broader Airflow ecosystem and steward the open‑source community.
• Promote new Airflow capabilities at conferences and industry events.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional Python development experience.
• Creative thinker who explores new ideas and solutions.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems.
• Strong knowledge of building scalable, distributed systems.
• Proactive learner staying current with industry trends.
• Experience writing unit tests and valuing automated testing.
• Collaborative mindset, good listener, and supportive teammate.
• Excellent communication across GitHub, Slack, Zoom, email, and pair‑programming sessions.
