Senior Purchasing Specialist

About the role

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Purchasing Specialist to support its greenfield mining and material handling project in Chennai. The role will be based at the company’s permanent office with part‑time telework flexibility, and will focus on creating, managing and expediting purchase orders for a complex supply chain.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, issue and administer purchase orders in accordance with project requirements and Bechtel policies.
• Communicate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify specifications, delivery schedules and contractual terms.
• Prepare bidder pre‑qualification documents, solicitation packages, and conduct bid analysis to recommend award decisions.
• Monitor order status, expedite deliveries, and resolve any performance issues with vendors.
• Supervise, train and guide junior purchasing or expediting staff as needed.
• Maintain accurate procurement documentation and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement or purchasing within large‑scale industrial or construction projects.
• Strong understanding of bid solicitation, pre‑qualification and contract administration processes.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with both suppliers and internal teams.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate across multiple project locations.
