Senior Product Manager – Search, Indexing & Query

About the role

Couchbase is building an operational data platform for AI, and the search, indexing and query layer is core to that vision. As a Senior Product Manager you will own the end‑to‑end experience of SQL++ query, secondary indexing, full‑text, vector and hybrid search across both Capella and Couchbase Enterprise.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the product roadmap for search, indexing and query, including PRFAQs, PRDs, launches and post‑launch iteration.
• Make Couchbase the preferred retrieval layer for AI‑driven applications by shaping relevance, freshness and cost‑per‑query.
• Improve developer experience: index recommendations, query debugging, cost visibility and fast first‑time queries.
• Own performance and cost narratives, produce reproducible benchmarks and position Couchbase against competitors.
• Partner closely with engineering, sales, GTM, design partners and AI teams to ensure seamless integration across the platform.

Required profile

• 7+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years on technical platforms such as databases, search or AI infrastructure.
• Deep systems knowledge – latency, throughput, recall, index structures, query plans, memory/storage trade‑offs and cost per operation.
• Customer‑obsessed, works backwards from enterprise needs and writes PRFAQs before any code.
• Credible with engineers, decisive on scope, and able to explain trade‑offs clearly.
• Trusted across functions – sales, GTM, marketing and engineering.
• Proven use of AI tools in product management research, drafting and analysis.

Required skills

• SQL++ query language
• Full‑text search
• Vector and hybrid search
• Benchmarking and performance analysis
