Senior Principal, Entrepreneur-in-Residence (India)
RMI · International
Job description
About the role
RMI's Third Derivative program is looking for a visionary entrepreneur-in-residence to lead a climate technology and public health program that accelerates passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) products from pilot projects to mass-scale deployment. The role creates and leads a new market-shaping platform that coordinates global demand and supply, and could spin out into a new nonprofit, with RMI providing initial staff support while the entrepreneur raises funding and builds the team. The position is funded for an initial 12-month term, convertible to permanent if additional funding is secured, and is open to candidates based in India or able to travel there frequently.
Key responsibilities
- Create and lead a new market-shaping platform and build a team to drive a global effort
- Define the market mechanism(s) to scale PDRC at low cost, such as IP acquisition, direct procurement, and advance market commitments
- Identify and forge a coalition of investors, philanthropies, paint producers, commercial customers, government agencies and grassroots partners
- Design a deployment approach where commercial deployments cross-subsidize vulnerable communities
- Build and lead a world-class team and successfully fundraise
Required profile
- 12+ years building and scaling ventures, market-shaping initiatives or field-building organizations in climate, public health or global development
- Proven fundraising record with multi-million-dollar commitments from philanthropies, governments, DFIs or corporations
- Experience designing and closing large-scale market mechanisms such as advanced market commitments, pooled procurement, volume guarantees or IP agreements
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead a team from zero, including a spin-out or independent organization
- Fluency in blended finance and supply-side development
- External credibility with C-suite executives, ministers and funders
Preferred qualifications
- Technical literacy in materials science, paints and coatings or manufacturing scale-up
- Background in cooling, building materials or the built environment
- Experience in India or other high-heat Global South markets
What we offer
- Annual base compensation of $150,000 - $200,000 USD, plus a performance-based bonus
- Initial 12-month term with possible conversion to permanent staff
