Senior Payroll Accountant

About the role

We are building a finance function that leverages AI, automation and modern tooling to keep pace with Databricks’ growth. The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for day‑to‑day and month‑end accounting for Databricks’ global payroll, reporting to the Payroll Accounting Manager in India. You will handle complex reconciliations, variance analysis and drive process improvements in a fast‑moving, high‑growth environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and record payroll journal entries for salaries, bonuses, commissions, stock‑based compensation, benefits and multi‑state/international taxes.
• Execute monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations, identify variances and resolve discrepancies.
• Perform payroll flux analysis to investigate period‑over‑period movements.
• Account for equity compensation programs (RSUs, stock options, ESPP) including tax withholding and GL reconciliation.
• Support payroll accounting across high‑complexity jurisdictions such as the Netherlands, Brazil, France, Germany and India.
• Partner with Payroll Operations to resolve register‑to‑GL mismatches and assist statutory and external audits.
• Lead testing and implementation of updates to cloud‑based payroll and accounting systems.
• Drive AI and automation initiatives to improve reconciliation tooling and reduce manual effort.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Accounting or Finance.
• 6‑8 years of general accounting experience, with at least 4 years in payroll accounting.
• Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA certification preferred.
• Experience with equity compensation accounting (RSUs, stock options, ESPP) is a plus.
• Exposure to global payroll jurisdictions, especially high‑complexity countries.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑based accounting systems and strong knowledge of US GAAP.
• Demonstrated interest in automation and AI adoption in accounting operations.
