Senior Marine Surveyor – New Construction

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking an experienced Senior Marine Surveyor to lead new construction projects from the Mumbai office. You will act as a subject‑matter expert on classification and statutory certification, ensuring vessels under construction meet all applicable rules, regulations and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the New Construction Manager in planning, scheduling and coordinating surveys across shipyards, owners and designers.
• Lead and oversee all survey and inspection activities during fabrication, assembly, outfitting, trials and delivery.
• Review shipyard documentation such as Inspection and Test Plans, welding procedures and trial protocols for compliance.
• Maintain accurate survey records, reports and certification files in line with BV quality procedures.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to junior surveyors and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in marine surveys, new construction supervision or vessel certification within a classification society, shipyard or similar organization.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of Classification Society Rules and IACS Unified Requirements.
• Familiarity with statutory conventions, shipbuilding standards and best practices.
• Proficiency with survey tools, inspection equipment and digital reporting systems.
• Understanding of quality management systems and document‑control processes.
