Senior Low-Carbon Building Design and Passive Cooling Expert

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a senior expert to lead the design and implementation of low‑carbon building and passive cooling solutions in India. The consultant will support the Mitigation Branch and UNEP India Office in accelerating passive cooling uptake across state governments, public sector undertakings, cities, private developers and academia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and operationalise Passive Cooling Strategies (PCS) guidelines for Odisha, Maharashtra and nationally.
• Provide technical assistance for affordable‑housing pilot projects and conduct capacity‑building training.
• Lead consultations and meetings with state governments and other stakeholders.
• Produce an External Shading Design Booklet tailored to different climate zones and latitudes.
• Engage partners, coordinate subcontractors and develop knowledge products, tools, training material and communication pieces.

Required profile

• Minimum 25 years of experience in market research, stakeholder mapping, strategic communication or related fields.
• Demonstrated expertise on India, with experience engaging government, industry, finance and academia.
• Advanced experience in communication, stakeholder engagement and management.
• Proven track record in district cooling market development and multi‑stakeholder partnership building in India.
