Senior Java Software Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to develop innovative software solutions for semiconductor equipment. You will work on cutting‑edge technologies such as machine learning, AI, and microservices to solve high‑value customer problems.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze requirements, design, develop, and maintain complex software solutions.
• Own feature development from design through implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Define software specifications, architecture, and test strategies for new features.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement robust fixes.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, cross‑functional teams, and customers to understand requirements and manage dependencies.
• Drive engineering best practices, technical excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in software product development.
• Strong expertise in Core Java and modern features (Streams, Functional Programming, Concurrency, Virtual Threads).
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• 4+ years of experience in software design (HLD, LLD, OOAD, Design Patterns, SOLID, GRASP, Clean Code).
• 4+ years designing and developing Microservices or SOA‑based systems.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures, RabbitMQ, Kafka, and asynchronous distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
• Experience using AI‑powered engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Rovo.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites in the US, Taiwan, and Korea as required.
