Senior Engineering Manager - Java

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a backend product development team in Bangalore. You will own the end‑to‑end delivery of Java‑based software features, mentor developers, and bridge product domain knowledge with technical execution.

Key responsibilities

• Drive product software development from requirements through final code delivery, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Provide technical mentorship, define functional and design specifications, and oversee implementation and verification plans.
• Manage a team of 7‑10 developers in a techno‑managerial capacity (≈60% technical, 40% people management).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders, influence end‑users and applications engineering teams, and operate across multi‑site, multi‑time‑zone environments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (CE/EE) with 14‑20 years of total experience.
• 2‑3 years of people‑management experience and at least 12 years of software development experience.
• 10+ years of Java development, including Java 8+ features, and strong exposure to HLD/LLD, design and code reviews.
• Experience with large‑scale data handling using MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and cloud‑native container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
