Senior Associate Software Engineer – Java Backend

About the role

Light & Wonder is looking for a Senior Associate Software Engineer to join its backend team in Pune. You will help develop and maintain the core game engines that power online slot games, working closely with designers, mathematicians and frontend developers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain game engines for Light & Wonder digital games
• Write comprehensive tests to ensure quality and reliability
• Create technical documentation and share best practices
• Collaborate with game designers and mathematicians to implement game mechanics
• Work with frontend developers to integrate engines with game clients
• Assist QA in testing and debugging games
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
• Contribute to tools and processes that improve the development pipeline

Required profile

• Familiarity with Java or another object‑oriented programming language and strong OOP understanding
• Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms and design patterns
• Experience with version control systems such as Git
• Understanding of Agile development methodologies and tools like Jira
• Ability to work with structured file formats such as XML and JSON
• Knowledge of SQL databases and ability to write queries
