Safety Officer

About the role

The Safety Officer will lead all safety and fire protection activities for a manufacturing plant, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain plant safety procedures.
• Conduct daily safety rounds to identify and correct unsafe conditions and acts.
• Organise and deliver daily toolbox talks across all areas.
• Oversee housekeeping and enforce PPE compliance.
• Review fire‑extinguisher installations on a weekly basis.
• Coach workers on safe behaviour and nominate candidates for safety awards.
• Inspect first‑aid kits weekly.
• Conduct monthly safety town‑hall meetings.
• Plan and execute fire drills twice a year.
• Maintain fire and safety documentation, including LTA board updates, RIIR, legal non‑compliance data, HIRA, SOT, and incident reports.
• Liaise with external agencies for fire NOC, health certificates, and other regulatory requirements.
• Monitor equipment safety, including moving‑part guards and electrical connections, and supervise safety during equipment installation.
• Act as focal point for incident response, root‑cause analysis, and implementation of preventive actions.
• Prepare and participate in EMR & OR reviews.
• Organise and conduct safety and fire audits.
• Coordinate with corporate safety officers for company‑wide safety initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in industrial safety management.
• Strong knowledge of fire safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to lead safety training, audits, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication skills for coaching workers and liaising with external agencies.
