Safety Manager

About the role

The Safety Manager will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) program for a large underground construction project, ensuring safe execution of tunneling, heavy lifting and related activities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain a Safety Management System (SMS) tailored to underground risks.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as the BOCW Act and Metro Rail safety standards.
• Set safety KPIs and monitor performance across the project team and subcontractors.
• Oversee tunneling safety, including TBM operations, cutter head interventions and segment lifting.
• Manage atmospheric monitoring systems for ventilation and gas detection.
• Coordinate structural integrity checks with engineering teams.
• Develop emergency evacuation plans for deep shafts and long tunnel sections.
• Conduct high‑risk inspections, audits and specialized training for confined‑space entry and rescue.
• Lead root‑cause analysis of incidents and prepare detailed safety reports for stakeholders and regulators.
• Act as primary liaison with local fire departments and medical services for emergency response drills.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safety management for underground or tunneling projects.
• Strong knowledge of Indian construction safety legislation and metro‑rail standards.
• Ability to promote a “Zero Harm” culture among a diverse workforce.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
