Safety Engineer – EV Traction Motor

About the role

The Safety Engineer – EV Traction Motor supports functional safety and product safety activities for electric‑vehicle traction motor systems throughout the development lifecycle, collaborating with motor design, inverter, controls, testing, quality, manufacturing and supplier teams.

Key responsibilities

• Support functional safety activities for EV traction motor products in accordance with ISO 26262.
• Perform and maintain HARA, DFMEA/FMEA, FTA and safety risk analyses for motor, sensor, inverter and control failure modes.
• Define Safety Goals, Functional Safety Requirements (FSR) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) and propose mitigation strategies for single‑point, residual and latent faults.
• Analyse specific EV motor hazards such as over‑temperature, over‑current, overspeed, phase failures, sensor failures, insulation breakdown and unintended torque generation.
• Collaborate with motor, inverter and controls teams to implement diagnostic, protection and safe‑state behaviours.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related engineering.
• 4–6 years of experience in functional safety, EV power‑train or safety‑critical product development.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 processes and hands‑on experience with HARA, FMEA/DFMEA, FTA and fault analysis.
• Understanding of EV traction motor technologies (PMSM, IPM, SPM), motor sensors, inverter interfaces and control algorithms.
• Experience in safety validation, fault injection, diagnostic testing and failure analysis.
