Research Engineer

About the role

Monotype is seeking a curious, research‑minded engineer to explore AI and vision technology projects. This research‑first position involves investigating open‑ended problems, prototyping novel approaches, and shaping solutions where no clear path exists.

Key responsibilities

• Research, prototype, and evaluate approaches to challenging AI and vision problems.
• Translate research ideas into working proofs‑of‑concept and experiments.
• Leverage modern AI tools and frameworks to accelerate research and problem‑solving.
• Stay current with the latest developments in AI, computer vision, and machine learning.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align research with product and customer needs.
• Document findings, share learnings, and contribute to the team’s research direction.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from a top‑tier institute.
• 0–3 years of experience (fresh graduates with strong research aptitude are welcome).
• Ability to solve unsolved problems using first principles and an AI‑first mindset.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, self‑driven, and motivated by hard, open‑ended problems.

Required skills

• Strong programming fundamentals, preferably Python.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Exposure to computer vision concepts (image processing, OCR, object recognition).
• Experience with modern AI tools and LLMs (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Codex).
• Active Salesforce Trailhead badge holder.
