Professor of Data Science (Full Professor)

About the role

The University of Chicago seeks a tenured Full Professor in Data Science. The appointment can be housed in the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Statistics, or jointly with another department. The role supports the university’s ambitious Data Science and AI initiatives, including new undergraduate and graduate programs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead an independent research program that advances theory and practice at the intersection of data science, AI, statistics, and computing.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students across relevant departments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary units such as the Data Science Institute, Toyota Technological Institute, Polsky Center, Fermilab, and Argonne National Laboratory.
• Contribute to the development of new academic curricula and cross‑disciplinary research projects.

Required profile

• Established record of scholarly contributions in data science, artificial intelligence, or related fields.
• Experience securing external research funding and publishing in top venues.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise graduate students.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic environment.

Required skills

• Expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
• Knowledge of large language models, data ethics, privacy, and trustworthy AI.
• Experience with data engineering, scalable data systems, and high‑dimensional statistical inference.
